Company History

  • Foundation and Early Years

Founded by William Pigott Sr. as Seattle Car Manufacturing Company in 1905, focusing on railway and logging equipment. Merged with Twohy Brothers in 1917 and renamed Pacific Car and Foundry Company, specializing in logging trucks, air brakes, refrigerated boxcars, and more.

  • World War II Contributions

During World War II, the company's sales grew due to increased demand for steel in military equipment. Pacific Car sub-contracted for Boeing and built Sherman tanks, M25 Tank Transporters, and other military vehicles.

  • Post-war Expansion

After World War II, Pacific Car became a prime contractor for the Korean War. Acquired Kenworth Motor Truck Corporation in 1945 and Peterbilt Motors Company in 1954.
